Affenpinscher

The Affenpinscher is a very small dog, from 3 - 8 pounds, and up to 11 1/2 inches tall, and is very difficult to find. Nicknamed the "monkey dog" due to it's facial features and expressions, is a feisty little dog that originated in Germany, and is primarily a companion dog. It has a harsh, shaggy coat, usually black, dark gray, tan or red, with longer hair on it's face. They are sensitive to temperature extremes either warm weather conditions, or very cold conditions. Affenpinschers are not recommended for smaller children, but most of them are agreeable to other pets, especially if they have been raised with them. They are very amusing, playful, inquisitive and love being with their human family. They are active and like to go hiking and enjoy the outdoors. They are very affectionate and loyal. They can be a little difficult to train and need consistent training. They like to bark, so if this annoys you, you may want to reconsider owning one. Very little exercise is needed, so they would do well without a yard or in apartment living. They make good watchdogs and are good at performing tricks. Regular grooming is required, but no trimming is needed. Shedding is light.
